Hi, my name is Celeste, and I am a PhD student in the Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (SCBRM) Program. I grew up in Southern California and earned my B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine. As an undergraduate, I conducted research in the lab of Dr. Christopher Hughes, where I used organ-on-a-chip technology and human pancreatic islet organoids to study Type 1 Diabetes. This experience motivated my continued interest in how metabolic processes impact tissue homeostasis, immune function, and cell fate decisions. In the Goins Lab, I use Drosophila to investigate the role of nutrient signaling in hematopoiesis and progenitor maintenance. Beyond the bench, I’m passionate about science outreach and serve with the SCBRM student government, the High School SIMR program, and the Community College Outreach Program. In my free time, I enjoy crocheting, exploring farmers’ markets, visiting home, and spoiling my niece.
