The Goins Lab welcomes trainees who are curious, collaborative, and eager to grow as scientists. We enjoy connecting with graduate students, postdocs, medical fellows, and other trainees who are interested in our work and our approach to mentorship.

Graduate Students: The Goins Lab welcomes graduate students from Stanford-sponsored PhD programs. Students interested in joining the lab must first be admitted to a Stanford PhD program (such as Stanford Biosciences) before rotating or joining the lab. While we are based in the Department of Developmental Biology, we are happy to host students from a range of home programs.

  1. After admission, students interested in a rotation are encouraged to contact the PI to discuss research interests and fit. Information about Stanford Biosciences PhD admissions can be found here: https://biosciences.stanford.edu/how-to-apply/. Graduate students from other institutions who are interested in visiting or collaborating are encouraged to reach out to discuss possibilities.

Postdoctoral fellows: We welcome inquiries from prospective postdoctoral scholars who are excited about stem cell biology, hematopoiesis, and in vivo approaches to studying cell fate decisions. Our lab takes a multidisciplinary approach to science, and we welcome applicants from diverse scientific backgrounds who have a strong interest in our research program.

In your initial inquiry please include:

  1. Your C.V.
  2. A cover letter describing:
    • Your current and future research interests.
    • The skill sets and techniques you have acquired during your scientific career.
    • Why do our research program and this position interest you?
    • How do you envision contributing to our research program?
  3. Names and complete contact information for three references.

Undergraduates: Stanford undergraduates interested in the lab are encouraged to contact the PI directly. At times, the lab is able to host visiting undergraduates through structured programs such as Community College Outreach Program (CCOP) and SSRP-Amgen Scholars Program.

Research Technicians: The Goins Lab is not currently hiring research technicians (e.g. LSRPs). When positions become available, openings will be posted on the lab website and through Stanford’s official hiring portals.
