First year PhD student in developmental biology, Zucy Virgen, joins us for a fall rotation. Welcome to the lab, Zucy!

The Goins lab was very well represented at the annual mass migration of developmental biologists to Santa Cruz (also known as DevBio retreat). Congratulations to Jewel for giving an excellent talk (as the grand finale!) and to Bayan, Julie, Christina, Celeste, and Zoya for their posters. DB Da Best! 

Zoya had tons of fun teaching the way of the fly during the 2026 Genetics/DevBio training camp. She played a big role in redesigning the course this year alongside fellow DB student Arjun Rajan, and even gave her first set of lectures! 

Congratulations to Nandini on an expertly delivered final presentation and poster for SSRP! She won the award for “Excellence in Scientific Content.” Well done, Nandini!

Congratulations to Nandini, Ashwin, and Ilana on a successful summer of research! Wishing you all the luck on your future plans — don’t be strangers! 

The Goins lab kicked off the new cycle of DevBio Happy Hours with another successful department-wide get together!

We celebrated International Intern Day with a summer lab lunch. Thank you to our interns for bringing your vivacious energy and unbridled passion for science to the lab this summer! We also took a new lab photo in honor of the occasion. 

Congratulations to Christina on passing her qualifying exam, wrapping up a very productive year of candidacy exams for the Goins lab!

Dr. Goins attends the EMBO Molecular and Developmental Biology of Drosophila conference in Crete. During the meeting, Lauren got to join a group of 100 PIs, unified by their work in Drosophila. It was the 24th time this meeting has been held, so Lauren was super honored to take part in the time-honored tradition!

The lab is once again full of summer students! Welcome visiting students Ashwin (University of Southern California, hosted by Julie) and Nandini (University of Arizona, hosted by Jewel). And welcome back to Stanford undergrad Ilana (hosted by Bayan)!
