May 2026

Benjamin celebrated 25 years of service to Stanford! He was honored at a ceremony, with Lauren and his other PI Dr. Minx Fuller as his very proud guests! Congrats Benjamin, and thank you for all that you do!

First year PhD student in  Developmental Biology Adriana Bibo begins a spring rotation, with Zoya as her mentor. Welcome to the lab, Adriana!

Jewel heads to lovely Long Island for an intensive (no weekends off!) microscopy course at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. He also received a travel grant from the Beckman Center to fund his travel – well done Jewel!

In bittersweet news, Julie is chosen to represent Stanford School of Medicine in the Vice Provost Office for Graduate Education (VPGE) 2026 Dissertation Completion Fellowship Program. Congratulations Julie – The finish line is near!

Bayan receives postdoctoral funding from the Schlumberger Foundation to promote the advancement of women in STEM from around the world, and is aptly titled for “future faculty.” Many congratulations Bayan!

Fearless postdocs Bayan and Jewel headed to Chicago to represent the lab at the 67th annual Drosophila meeting. They both gave posters – great job, guys!

The Community College Outreach Program (CCOP) held its fourth annual Day of Science event for community college students. Celeste did an awesome job as one of the head organizers – congrats Celeste!

Members from the Bilder lab at UC Berkeley paid us a visit for the day! We talked about our shared interests in cancer models and love for flies (and life outside of science too)!

The Goins lab hosted a Mardi Gras meets Valentine’s Day happy hour for DevBio Happy Hour. King’s Cake shipped from one of Lauren’s favorite bakeries in New Orleans was on the menu, and the department had a blast looking for the “baby!”
